Mawarra Genetics was represented by Brandon, Logan and Taylah at the recent Herefords Australia Young Guns Conference and Breed Forum held in Hamilton, Victoria.

They were grateful to Herefords Australia for the invitation to attend and for organising such an informative and engaging line-up of speakers. Information was given explaining the significant benefits of using Hereford bulls over Angus cows due to heterosis, leading to more dollars-per-calf sold, compared to straight Angus or straight Hereford calves. Of the many topics covered over the two days a couple of key take home messages centred around how to improve profit driving traits without single trait selection and how important it is for producers to submit the easily recorded traits such as Mature Cow weights and joining dates to improve the accuracy of EBVs.

The enthusiasm and passion for agriculture amongst the Young Guns participants was terrific to be a part of. There was much discussion and debate enjoyed across the two days.
