Jason, Jody & Evie Graham – Graham Genetics, NSW
Coming up six years ago we purchased our foundation females for our Australian Hereford herd, Graham Genetics, from the first Ladies Day Sale at Mawarra. We have been so pleased and impressed by the cows we purchased, the quality of the Mawarra cow herd is unrivalled in our eyes and now first hand experience.
Successful businesses often apply a constant focus on improvement … and a fundamental pillar of this philosophy is benchmarking with other like businesses, attempting to establish “what good looks like”, and then aspiring to that standard.
One of the things we have learnt from purchasing from Mawarra is “what good looks like” in relation to high-performing cows. We thought we knew the benchmark for good cow performance, but that has been well and truly smashed ever since we began breeding and raising cattle from the Mawarra Genetics base.
Our advice to anyone who is looking to establish a stud or add to an existing one is that you will not be disappointed by choosing to participate in this Sale.
We believe there are females from some of the very best cow lines in the breed on offer, and quality herd opportunities are available from the first female through to the last.
As an example, at Mawarra’s first Ladies Day Sale we spent from $3,500 – $14,000 for individual females from throughout the catalogue, and the truly exciting thing is is that every single one has impressed.
One of our favourites from the first Ladies Day Sale was sold
as an in-calf heifer from the
Miss Titania line. At the time she wasn’t really on our list but, after some discussion with Logan, we found out that he had not wanted this heifer to be included in the sale because she was going to
be such a great cow. On that recommendation, how could we not purchase her!
We sold her first bull calf
privately to a renown stud, and her second calf was awarded Junior Champion at the National Hereford Heifer Show at Parkes in 2019. An ET bull from her sold for our record price of $20,000 at the Wodonga National this year.
Her heifer from last year is currently being broken in for our local Cootamundra Show … and her current bull calf at foot may be the best yet!
The quality of the Mawarra cow herd is unrivalled in our eyes and now first-hand experience, and we would encourage you to talk to any of the Mawarra team. Let them tell you about the female lines and some of their favourites … they are as honest as the day is long … and they know…
“what good looks like”.
