Michael Brown, Sale

Michael purchased his first Mawarra bull in 2015 after moving away from vealer production to growing out Black baldies, an enterprise more suited to his property. Michael made the decision to purchase a Whiteface bull to put over his Angus and Black Baldy cows, with his plan being to sell the Baldy calves at 18mths – 2 years old.

“I spoke to Peter about undertaking a new venture and he was able to steer me in the right direction. Considering my target market and budget, he helped me select a bull best suited to my requirements and I purchased Maximus (P) for $5,500. He is a low-birth-weight sire, with great weight-for-age and butt-shape. My young children are often with me but, as he has an extremely quiet temperament, I have no concerns about them being in close proximity to him. My cows have produced both Red and Black Baldies … the calves are wide across the top and have better weight-for-age than my straight-bred Angus calves.

What is particularly pleasing for me is that the Baldies have inherited their sire’s temperament.”
